Teen Drug Abuse

The drug abuse in the modern times has grown by leaps and bounds amongst teenagers. If the abuse remains unchecked, it becomes addiction leading to serious consequences.  Most of the reported teen deaths have some connection to drug abuse in some way of the other. Drug abuse has become a monster in the society as it is leading to increased criminal activities by teenagers. Most addicts usually start taking drugs due to peer pressure to simply get the kicks but eventually land up getting addicted to it. The addiction if unchecked is really harmful and can have disastrous consequences.

Drug abuse in teens can be easily detected by observation. In case of drug abuse, the teen starts behaving abnormally and usually becomes quite aloof in his behavior with other family members. There is a change in the eating and sleeping habits which should be treated as warning signals. A teenager who at some point of time has seen drug abuse in his family is more prone to the risk of becoming a drug addict himself because as he grows up, the desire to experiment the use of drugs takes over and the ten fall prey to drug abuse. Initially it may just start as a fun with friend or due to peer pressure, but as time passes the abuse inches its way to addiction then towards the point of no return.

The teen’s use of drugs has direct effect on his moods, studies, social activities. The teen’s drug abuse is enough to devastate any parent ruin the family life. For parents drug abuse by the teen is their biggest concern.  Drug abuse results in insomnia, irritability, convulsions, paranoia, anxiety, violent behaviors, learning problems, memory loss, lethargy, increased heart rate, chronic bronchitis, muscle tension, dehydration, teeth clenching, brain damage, hypothermia and lastly death.  The effects of drug abuse are numerous and the treatment depends upon the complications suffered by the teenager
